Priscilla had just got Lydia to sleep when she and her sister, Alethea, heard popping sounds and smelled smoke. Everyone else in the house was already sleeping, but thanks to a cranky baby, Priscilla and Alethea were still awake.
Alethea jumped out of bed and opened the garage door to see what was going on. “DADDY THERE IS A FIRE IN THE GARAGE!!”
My uncle thought he could put it all out, but then he saw that a lot of the fire was up in the attic, so, he said, “Everyone get out of the house!’’
The pants my uncle had put on had all the keys to the cars, so they got all the cars out and rode on over to our place. The house burned to the ground. They didn’t get many things out of the house because the house burned so quickly. They did get Bibles, a few of their cell phones, and just about one pair of clothes.
Two days later, our family went to go see the house. After it rained all the night
before, the place where the house had been was still smoking from the fire.
God was sure protecting my uncle’s family! If God didn’t keep Little Lydia awake,
they could have all died from the smoke before they even knew there was a fire.
